PROBLEM

TripTribe offers a community-based platform that enables travelers to connect with each other and travel in groups. The challenge was to design something that allows a user to receive enough information about a location without having to resort to checking multiple websites or talking to people about their own experiences.

SCOPE

This project lasted 2 weeks. My roles included being the UX and Product Designer.

SOLUTION

An interactive application that suggested places to visit taking into context a users specific interests and provided them with brief information on the selected location.

DESIGN TOOLS

Balsamiq, Sketch and Paper Prototypes.

User Research

  • The research entailed speaking with five individuals and speaking to them about their travel habits.

  •  Both men and women were questioned about the frequency of traveling and motivation.

  • The participants were asked open ended questions that made it helpful in collecting  varied data that was then synthesized for trends.

Who are the users?

Young adults that are students and working professionals.

History buffs, Art enthusiasts, and Photographers who love to travel and experience something new.

They are bound by time constraints so traveling has to be fairly quick.

What do they say?

Trends

  • People want to travel to see something new in a different country.

  • It is hard to decide on a location without knowing much about it.

  • People have limited time to travel due to personal obligations and want memorable experiences.

  • People love to share photos and chat about their travels using smartphones.

User Flows

Multiple pathways a user could take while interacting with the app was depicted through a quick sketch. This process depicted the initial on-boarding to selecting a region, to finally adding a travel location to their list of favorites. This helped me focus on the experience and needs of the user.

Usability Test

I conducted a usability test on the paper prototype and reincorporated the feedback into designing the prototype in Balsamiq. The feedback I received was to have more space between the choices, increase text size, and change the confusing bell to a game controller icon for a mini game that is to follow in a later screen.
